The government of Ukraine has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) collection called "Meta History: Museum of War" to raise funds in its fight against Russia.

Mykhailo Fedorov, vice prime minister of Ukraine and the country’s minister of digital transformation, tweeted announcing the launch of the NFT collection on Friday.

Fedorov first announced the Ukrainian government’s plan to launch NFTs to support Ukrainian armed forces on March 3 after the government canceled a planned token airdrop.

On March 14, the Ukrainian government launched an official website to collect donations in cryptocurrencies. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy subsequently signed the law on virtual assets to regulate the crypto market in Ukraine.

The Russian Invasion enters Day 32

The devastation of Ukraine continues as the war enters day 32. Russian missile attacks on Ukraine’s cities have reduced the buildings to massive piles of rubble. As the Ukraine situation worsens and the rest of the world watches in horror, digital currency has become the besieged country's only hope.

The Ukrainian government, in collaboration with cryptocurrency startups FTX and Everstake, has already created a website since last week to direct payments to Ukraine's central bank as it fights a disastrous Russian invasion. Users can donate in ten different crypto currencies on the "Aid for Ukraine" website, including Bitcoin, Ether, Tether, and Dogecoin.

"Cryptocurrencies play a significant role in Ukraine's defense," Oleksandre Borniakov, Ukraine's deputy minister of Digital Transformation, said in a statement.

"Cryptocurrency assets have proven to be extremely valuable in facilitating the flow of funding to Ukrainian citizens and soldiers and in raising awareness and interest among the global public," he added.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, it is estimated that funds amounting to more than $100 million in cryptocurrency has been donated to the Ukraine government, as per the data compiled and released by the blockchain tracker Elliptic.

The mission of the Museum of War NFT project is "To preserve the memory of the real events of that time, to spread truthful information among the digital community in the world, and to collect donations for the support of Ukraine," its website explains.

The NFT collection website further details that the collection presents "A chronology of events of the Ukrainian history of modern times, set in stone … The NFTs are facts accompanied by personal reflections."

Fair.xyz built the collection website for the Ukrainian government and assembled the first sale that is planned for next Wednesday. The sale is expected to raise between $2 million and $3 million. It will feature 5,000 to 7,000 NFTs priced at around $450 each, Forbes reported, adding that they will be sold over the Ethereum blockchain.

The official Twitter account for the NFT collection explained: "Our war line includes every substantial event of the war … All the NFTs will be sold in chronological order. Their content will be hidden until the NFT is sold."
