Most Gamers Believe Metaverse Will Change the Gaming Industry Positively
Software
development firms, Globant and Yougov, have published the results of a
survey that found most gamers believe that the metaverse will positively
change the gaming industry. The survey unveils data consisting of one thousand
PC, console, and mobile gamers. It also reveals that most gamers are still
uncomfortable with advertising in the metaverse and that non-fungible tokens
(NFTs) are not popular with metaverse gamers.
The Metaverse Might Change the Gaming Industry
The
perception of gamers about the metaverse and its impact on the future of the
industry is taking a positive turn. A new survey, titled "Metaverse
Awareness Survey," published by Globant, a software and tech company in
partnership with Yougov, has revealed that gamers support the hype around the
metaverse.
The survey
also covered other metaverse-related subjects like NFTs that included one
thousand gamers on the importance of the metaverse for the interactive
entertainment industry. More than half of those surveyed believe that metaverse
technology will have an impact, with 41% having a very positive outlook for the
sector, while 25% were found to be indifferent about the issue.
Gamers are
yet to accept advertising in the metaverse, with only 35% showing some interest
in these spaces. About 44% said that they would accept advertising in the
metaverse, subject to rewards or some kind of incentive, such as access to
apps.
Nicolas
Avila, CTO for Globant in North America, stated:
"Through
this survey, we see that although the development of the metaverse is still in
its early stages, U.S. gamers already see the technology as capable of
expanding the realm of possibility in gaming."
Cryptocurrencies and NFTs
The survey
seems to indicate there is a gap between the metaverse and web 3.0, as most gamers
are not comfortable with the use of cryptocurrencies or NFTs. The survey
results indicate that 34% of the gamers were interested in managing
cryptocurrency, while almost half of them had no interest in crypto assets.
Big gaming
companies like Ubisoft have started experimenting with NFTs in the
gaming sector, but the concept is still relatively new to the field. As 73% of
gamers link the platform with its concept, Meta seems to be getting the
upper hand when it comes to brand association with the metaverse.
