Xiaomi Introduces Blockchain in Character Generation

Several industries are adopting blockchain technology for their new products due to its decentralized and immutable nature. Xiaomi is a Chinese company known for its mobile phones and gadgets. It has revealed about filing a patent that would use blockchain technology for the generation of its virtual characters. The patent, titled "Virtual Character Processing Method, Device, and Storage Medium," which was introduced in January 2022, has been disclosed recently by the company.

The company has announced that its virtual characters will be generated using different gene sequences. It will be used to determine the images that will identify the characters. The method determines that each of the characters will be unique and unpredictable.

Blockchain Segment

The segment that mentions blockchain in the patent largely involves the storage of the characters to be created. The characters would use decentralized ledger technology to store their gene sequences so the unique combination could be preserved against tampering and distortion.

The concept of the application is still pending, although the patent has been filed. There is speculation about Xiaomi launching its metaverse platform with virtual characters as the main draw. But there is no official confirmation by the company. Xiaomi has earlier flirted with the crypto world. In 2018, the brand launched its first collection of NFTs, which it called Crypto Rabbits. But the project was shelved in March, citing low popularity, according to the sources.
