Samsung to Introduce Knox Matrix, Blockchain-Based Security System
The consumer electronics giant Samsung has announced the
introduction of a blockchain-based security system for its smart devices. The
Knox Matrix system will enhance the security of a multi-device environment,
with each smart device monitoring others and sharing access to simplify login
tasks.
Samsung Blockchain-Based Security System
Blockchain technology is being used for a wide range of
activities, including security and trust-based applications. Samsung, the
Korean Consumer Electronics and Software Company has announced
the introduction of a "private blockchain" security system to enhance
the security of its smart devices.
At the recent Samsung Developer Conference, the Knox Matrix
system was presented to revamp the current Samsung security solution. While the
company did not share the details of the system, it did explain that the new
interface will enhance interconnection between the different smart devices
available on a network and improve security through "multi-layered mutual
monitoring."
As an example, Samsung claims that using a phone connected to
another smart device like a TV or a smart AC will enable the safety of the
devices from being compromised by any threat.
Connectivity and Hardware
The Knox Matrix solution will also streamline login tasks around
the home because the login state is distributed automatically to devices that
need to join the network. At the same time, it will protect sensitive
information from other devices in the network.
The announcement also notes that "Whether your Samsung
devices are based on Android, Tizen, or another OS, Samsung Knox Matrix will be
able to provide a unified security SDK (software development kit)." The
date of launch and the system specifications have not been given by Samsung.
Samsung has always been at the forefront of improving hardware
security, specially created for blockchain and crypto-based environments. The
company included a wallet in its flagship smartphone in early 2019, the Samsung
Galaxy S10. It was the first model that featured hardware-based protection with
private keys.
The security system included at that time was called Knox and is
the predecessor to the system that Samsung has recently presented for
improvement. The company has also been present in the non-fungible token (NFT) area, collaborating with
six different companies in August to establish its own Galaxy-branded NFT
ecosystem.
