Terra Co-Founder Do Kwon to Appeal his Arrest Extension in Montenegro
The Vijesti publication from Montenegro has reported that the co-founder and CEO of Terraform Labs Do Kwon is to appeal the detention extension in the Montenegro court. Kwon was arrested on March 23, 2023, at Podgorica Airport in Montenegro while traveling with forged identification papers.
Kwon’s Legal Team to Appeal 30-Day Detention Extension
The Interior Minister of Montenegro, Filip Adzic announced 3 days ago on Twitter that Do Kwon, the
co-founder, and CEO of Terraform Labs, was arrested on Thursday for showing
forged identification papers. Kwon’s location was unknown for some time, with
speculation rife that he was hiding in Singapore or possibly Dubai.
The
police in Montenegro have stated that Do Kwon’s forged identity documents
originated from Costa Rica and Belgium. The Montenegro local media and Vijesti publication
have reported that Kwon’s legal team is seeking to appeal his 30-day detention
extension. Kwon is facing several legal challenges abroad, including an
investigation in South Korea and multiple lawsuits in the United States.
South Korea to Repatriate Do Kwon
The
media reports emerging from Montenegro states that detention for Kwon’s offense
is limited to 72 hours, but the court has granted the extension due to the
status of Do Kwon as a flight risk. The prosecutors in Montenegro have stated
that the identities of Kwon and his companions have not been completely
verified, while foreign prosecutors from South Korea are seeking his
extradition. A South Korean spokesperson announced two days ago, that their
prosecutors are taking measures to "repatriate Do Kwon." Vijesti
publication reporters and Kwon’s legal team have revealed that the appeal will
be filed this week.
