Sam Altman-Backed Decentralized ID Protocol Worldcoin Launches

The Sam Altman-backed cutting-edge decentralized biometric ID protocol, Worldcoin, is making waves as it officially launches, inviting users to claim their share of WLD, the incentives-driven token that comes with confirming their identity using the innovative "Orb" biometric device. Worldcoin has announced the rapid launch of the devices across more than 35 cities.

Worldcoin Aimed at 2 Billion Global Users

The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman announced the launch of the decentralized ID and wallet protocol, Worldcoin on Monday. With three years of meticulous development behind it, Worldcoin is now open to the public and promises to revolutionize our perception of digital identity, aiming to engage a staggering 2 billion users worldwide.

Worldcoin has two crucial components: "World ID," a decentralized identity protocol that uses individuals' irises for rock-solid verification via specialized devices called "Orbs," and "World App," which empowers users to manage and transfer their WLD resources and receive the native token incentives through an internal wallet. On the launch of this milestone, Altman stated:

"Worldcoin is an attempt at global scale alignment; the journey will be challenging, and the outcome is uncertain. But finding new ways to broadly share the coming technological prosperity is a critical challenge of our time."

A remarkable 75% of the initial 10 billion WLD issuance is reserved for users, while the remainder will be held by "Tools For Humanity," the team spearheading the Worldcoin concept, along with its valued investors.

Users can avail themselves of the opportunity to reserve their share of WLD tokens. But they will have to physically verify humanness by an orb, reading their irises. Worldcoin is rapidly deploying over 1,500 orbs across more than 35 cities to propel the growth of the protocol.

More than 2 million users have joined World ID, and this expansion aims to add a whopping 40,000 sign-ups every week. The rollout of the devices will primarily target countries that have enthusiastically embraced Worldcoin's proposal, with Spain leading the charge with a 3x expansion due to its impressive 150,000 initial registrations.

However, the rollout in countries like Brazil and France will be more limited, while regulatory uncertainty currently prevents Worldcoin's availability in the United States.
