UAE Government Unveils Metaverse Regulation, White Paper
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has released a comprehensive white paper as a significant step to shaping the future of the metaverse that not only brings out the vast potential of the virtual world but also emphasizes the critical need for global preparedness.
New Framework Focuses on Universal Acceptance
The United Arab Emirates government officially unveiled a white paper titled "Responsible Metaverse Self-Governance Framework" by Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy. Al Olama underlined that this initiative, developed in collaboration with crypto exchange Okx, focuses on establishing universally accepted operating standards that will ultimately drive responsible growth in the metaverse. However, he also warned about multiple issues requiring intensive discussions that have been incorporated into the white paper.
Self-Regulatory Measures for the Global Framework
This 35 pages of visionary white paper, endorses self-regulation as a key factor and underscores the necessity of international cooperation to navigate the challenges posed by the metaverse. The authors of the white paper stated, "The establishment of common minimum self-regulatory principles through international cooperation is one possible approach to mitigate this challenge. This can be done by collectively adopting self-regulatory measures that are effective, fair, and prioritize the safety and security of metaverse users; the global community, governments, industry leaders, and civil society, can collaboratively establish a global framework for the responsible and sustainable evolution of the metaverse."
