Bitcoin's Record Transactions on Christmas Eve
The Bitcoin network set two new records during the festive weekend. The network recorded a historic high, with miners confirming 723,459 bitcoin transactions in a single day on Christmas Eve. It superseded the earlier high of 710,579 transactions registered 36 days ago by an impressive margin of 12,880 transactions. The surge in daily transactions on December 24 is primarily from Ordinal inscriptions, which contributed to a large volume of the daily transfers.
An estimated 439,505 Ordinal inscriptions were verified on Sunday, according to the Dune Analytics data. The inscriptions consequently outnumbered the traditional financial transfers, amounting to 60.75% of all transactions on Christmas Eve. The previous record of 710,579 transfers on November 19 now ranks as the second highest, and with 707,876 transfers on December 3, 2023, it trails in the third spot.
Bitcoin Miners Achieve New Peak in Total Hashrate
Bitcoin (BTC) miners also achieved a new peak in the total hashrate of the network, besides creating a daily transaction record on Christmas Eve. The cumulative hashrate climbed to 546 exahash per second (EH/s) on December 24, rising from 538 EH/s the previous day, as network difficulty breached 72 trillion. The hashrate has soared by 311 EH/s since January 1, 2023.
