Samsung and Nifty Gateway have teamed up to create the NFT Platform for Smart TVs

Samsung intends to capitalise on the non-fungible token (NFT) craze by including a screen-based explorer and an NFT marketplace aggregator in its future smart TVs. Samsung teamed up with Nifty Gateway, a digital art online auction platform for NFT art, to provide a TV-optimized NFT viewing, buying, and trading experience. The functionality also makes use of Nifty Gateway's custodial wallet system, which allows users to store their collections on the site rather than having to keep them in an external wallet. Users can also buy NFTs with a credit/debit card or cryptocurrency.

Samsung and Nifty Gateway have teamed up to create the NFT Platform for Smart TVs

In January, Samsung announced plans to integrate NFT capability into its new TVs at the CES 2022.  The South Korean company planned to roll out in 2022, the world's first TV screen-based NFT explorer and marketplace aggregator, a pioneering platform that lets you browse, purchase, and show your favourite art – all in one location, "Samsung said at the time.

This platform, according to Samsung, will allow producers to "share their creations with the world." Potential customers, on the other hand, will be able to see an NFT before purchasing it. Additionally, customers will be able to learn about NFT's history as well as access blockchain metadata related to the artwork.

Just over two months later, the Nifty Gateway NFT marketplace, which is controlled by Gemini, has announced a partnership with Samsung. The partnership is meant to “develop the first-ever smart TV NFT platform for exploring, purchasing, and trading digital art and collectibles.” According to the press announcement, the Nifty Gateway is already included in Samsung's 2022 premium TV product lines, which include the QLED and Neo QLED smart TVs.

"Leveraging Samsung’s and Nifty Gateway’s technology, customers can seamlessly browse, display, and interact with NFTs from the comfort of their couch," Nifty Gateway’s announcement details. "In addition, customers will have access to more than 6,000 art pieces from emerging and top artists, including Beeple, Daniel Arsham, Pak, and more."

Samsung's new 2022 premium TV lines, including its QLED and Neo QLED sets, will include the Nifty Gateway NFT platform. The owners of Samsung's The Frame and Micro LED TV sets can now download a Nifty Gateway app to acquire access. But Samsung has not defined which NFT platforms and marketplaces it expects to aggregate in the future.

Duncan Cock Foster, the co-founder of Nifty Gateway, further detailed during the announcement that Nifty Gateway aims to bring NFTs to "a billion people."

"We are committed to making NFTs accessible and making NFT purchases more seamless than ever before," the Nifty Gateway executive remarked. The NFT marketplace co-founder further added:

With our mission in mind, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Samsung to develop a groundbreaking NFT collecting experience. Their dedication to user experience and focus on the highest quality displays aligns perfectly with our vision to allow anyone, anywhere, to interact with their favorite creators.

The South Korean tech giant has also promised that these smart TVs won't tamper with the image quality, thereby keeping the NFT creator's preset value intact. The TVs will come with a calibration feature that automatically adjusts display settings "to the creator's preset values, so you can have peace of mind that your work looks impeccable, with true-to-the-original image quality." Thus, NFTs are set to get a similar treatment to Dolby Vision or Netflix Calibrated Mode.
